Known as Buchu Bushcamp, the lodge is situated about 70km east of Cape Agulhas, the southern-most tip of Africa and a mere 1km from the main gate of the De Hoop Nature Reserve. The reserve is comfortably under three hours’ drive from both Cape Town and George
and 35km off the N2 highway between Cape Town and the Garden Route. Nearest towns and villages: Bredasdorp, Arniston and Swellendam.
The lodge consists of five 50sqm en-suite chalets, three of which have mezzanine floors with two beds upstairs and two downstairs.
The lapa is a large open-plan thatched building with lounge, dining and bar areas. There is a separate downstairs entertainment room with satellite TV, a boma and plunge pool.
Each chalet is positioned for maximum privacy and all are accessed by separate boardwalks.

Each shareholder will be entitled to 150 rent-free chalet-nights per year on a very flexible usage basis ... no fixed weeks or rotations.
The entire bushcamp facility was designed and built by an environmental conservationist who took great care
not to damage the unique vegetation surrounding the camp; each endemic plant was mapped and carefully
removed prior to the construction phase and then, on completion of the project, each plant was returned to
a position as close as possible to its original location. To avoid any damage to the environment all access within the bushcamp is now along raised boardwalks, naturally!
The De Hoop Nature Reserve and Marine Sanctuary is the breeding ground of choice for Southern Right whales that visit the African coastline between July and November each year. The high sand dunes and sandstone cliffs near Koppie Alleen offer some of the most spectacular land-based whale watching in the world. The 36,000 hectare De Hoop Nature Reserve is home to the Cape Mountain Zebra and Bontebok, two species that were on the brink of extinction and much of their recovery is due to work done at De Hoop. The fencing between Buchu Bushcamp and the De Hoop Nature Reserve is soon to be removed.
A birder’s paradise - with over 265 species within the vicinity of the Bushcamp and De Hoop Vlei,
a proclaimed RAMSAR wetland.
